Community Sports Volunteer Projects in Kenya

Sports in Kenya

Volunteers on the Sports project work in the town of Nakuru helping coach children and young adults from the local communities. You will work with a group of enthusiastic students coaching football and focusing on improving the levels of fitness of the young people. This sports association dedicates it’s time to mentoring and training children and young adults from disadvantaged backgrounds who wouldn’t normally get the chance to play sports.

Community and youth sports projects are an important tool for helping children, teenagers and young adults from disadvantaged areas. This project combines aspects of sport, education and social care. All volunteers are welcome on this project, whether you join the project during a gap year, in your summer holidays or as part of a career break.

Volunteer on a Community Sports Project in Kenya

Kenya sports project

The Nakuru Youth Sports Association has been running for over 10 years and play a very important role in the local community. One of their main aims is to inspire and nurture talent in children and young adults who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. The project allows the children and young adults to become part of a team, giving them responsibilities and routine within their daily lives. This initiative helps prevent children and teenagers from going onto the streets and getting involved in crime and drug abuse.

The Youth Sports Association opens its doors to the community all day long and you will be involved in activities, coaching and matches both in the morning and afternoons. Coaching experience and training is an advantage, but as a volunteer it is not essential. As long as you have enthusiasm and are willing to get involved in all areas of the association you will be a welcome asset.

Having started off in the District League, the football team is now part of the Second League in Kenya. One of their main objectives is to become part of the Premier League in the future. You will be involved in helping them meet this objective through regular training sessions and matches. You will also be involved in community outreach programmes, supporting and interacting with the children on a daily basis.

You can join a Sports project in Kenya for two weeks if you don't have time to join us for a month or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for short term volunteering for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone volunteering for a longer period.
