Tamazight Language Course in Morocco

Learn the Tamzight language

Like Morocco itself, the spoken languages are greatly diverse. Arabic and French are generally spoken in the cities, but in the countryside and desert you are more than likely to hear Tamazight.

Tamazight is the language of the indigenous peoples of Morocco. It is closely related to the Berber languages spoken in Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and the Egyptian area of Siwa, as well as by large Berber communities in parts of Niger and Mali. The oldest recorded Tamazight inscription dates back around 2500 years.

You can learn Tamazight through Projects Abroad on an intensive, two week or month-long Language Project, where you will receive 15 hours of tuition each week.

MoroccoVolunteers who join our Nomad Project often come to Morocco for a Tamazight Language Project in the capital of Rabat - for two or four weeks – before embarking on their desert adventure.

Alternatively you can undertake a short, 14-hour course in Tamazight which is scheduled alongside a placement in Rabat. If you are in Rabat volunteering for at least three months you could also complete a 60-hour Tamazight language course alongside your volunteer placement.
