Community Farming Volunteer Projects in Argentina

Community Farming in Argentina

Volunteers can join our Community Farming project and work on an organic vegetable farm in Rio Ceballos. No farming or gardening experience is needed as you will receive training from a local specialist, so you can join this project on a gap year, career break or as part of a holiday period.

Volunteering on the organic farm will involve learning how to grow your own vegetables, including the importance of the plot location, availability of sunshine, size of the vegetable garden, how often to water and the selection of vegetables depending on the season.

Volunteer on an Organic Vegetable Farm with Projects Abroad

Depending on the time of year you arrive and the development of the project, you could be helping with planting new seeds, building and fencing enclosures, creating a display area for seeds and herbs, harvesting the vegetables and selling the vegetables.

Volunteers also arrange workshops at the farm to help educate local people about the advantages of growing their own vegetables and how to get started.

The farm is located in Rio Ceballos, at the foot of the Sierras Chicas, about 30km north of our main base in Cordoba. Rio Ceballos is mainly mountainous and has a mild dry climate. Volunteers live with local host families close to the placement.

Helping the Local Community

Growing organic vegetables in Argentina

The vegetable farm is situated on a site at a public secondary school, therefore while volunteering in Argentina on this project you will have the opportunity to work and socialise with local students, who will also be helping in the garden. The school was only started in March 2011; the teachers and students were responsible for building the school with environmentally friendly materials. The classrooms are made out of adobe and the construction is not yet fully completed.

The school where the farm is located does not receive any support from the government, so some of the vegetables grown in the garden are sold for a small amount of money to local families. The money raised helps with the school expenses.

This project is available for two weeks if you do not have time to join us for a longer period. You will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community. However, please be aware that you may not have the same impact as someone participating for a longer period.
